I'm thinking of this as a possible day-long workshop, where librarians could actually develop a grant proposal as part of the workshop. The presenter could have a list of organizations that would accept grant apps from AZ libraries.

Information problem-solving (information literacy) is a big umbrella that content literacy fits under. It is the life skill and enduring understanding we want content literacy to build toward. Future federal funding for reading is looking like there will be a focus on adolescent and content literacy. School librarians are in a unique position to model instructional strategies for all teachers and provide professional development in these areas.
Tie content literacy strategies to information problem-solving strategies and AASL standards. (ADE could provide this PD, but would also be good to have school librarian implementers co-present)

Learning spaces - how can libraries (particularly those with no renovation budget) enhance their library space to inspire studying, learning, and discovery? There has been a lot of this discussed in the literature, particularly in higher education. But it could relate to any type of library. How can we best use the space, furniture, and equipment to meet our user's needs?

We all know that libraries are on their last leg, with states, cities and counties cutting budgets. We need a workshop to illustrate and explain how we can get politically involved to protect our rights as employees and protect our rights as librarians.

From Leslie Kunkel: I've seen a lot of interest in archival library services lately. For
example, Catalina Oyler, archivist working on the Arizona Online project,
is offering a workshop on EAD (encoding archival description) to SIRLS
students and there is a lot of response. Susan Irwin's course this
semester, Intro to Archives, is very popular. Perhaps some sort of hands
on workshop on how to work with manuscripts, special collections,
archives??

From Leslie Kunkel: digital storytelling for health communication for high school students. KR students have been working in this area for several years now and do a terrific job with high school students in the Tucson area.
Comment from Sandy Littletree: Digital storytelling is a great idea with a lot of interest. I would suggest contacting Maya Castillo who provided our training for WE Search last year. She covered how to produce, prepare, and publish a digital story. This might need more than a few hours, though, as we had an abbreviated version of the workshop over the course of 12 hours or so. She might be able to reduce it further. There may be others who are experienced in giving this workshop that she might suggest if she isn't available.
